About Us

We're the team behind Freelancers In The UK www.freelancersintheuk.co.uk  which is essentially a register of UK based freelancers searchable by geographical location, skillset and name. It caters as much for individuals with a hobby as highflying journalists for the broadsheets in London and it's enjoyed  massive expansion and development since its launch in 2005.In fact, we've attracted quite a following.

Some About Us pages can be self-obsessed and narcissistic, which is not our natural way. You don't need to see cartoonesque caricatures of the sales team, the marketing director or the nicey nicey Personnel contact. Or know what our favourite fruit is....

We're just a bunch of motivated freelance professionals with a genuine desire to showcase the skills of our talented nation harnessing the power of the Internet thanks to our expertise in the field and what we can bring to the table individually.

We're a sort of cyber agency without the overheads, connecting people with projects via the Internet except there are no free lunches, no commission-based charges and only the right sort of attitude - positive, enabling, helpful, responsive and professional. And we work stupidly long hours, weekends and bank holidays because this is the new work ethic for freelancers!

What's it all about?

Why should you be interested in this website? Well, if you're working freelance, self-employed or a contractor, you're not alone.

The way that people work has altered radically in the last ten months, never mind the last ten years - the stats tell us that in 2006 more than 3 million people were regular home-based workers, many of whom work flexibly, accepting projects, commissions and contracts.

According to the ERSC, one in ten UK workers is currently self-employed and although this has historically been orientated towards the editorial sector, research today tells a different story. Professionals, executives, associates and colleagues from every business sector are switching to a new style of working facilitated by gargantuan leaps in technology - and this website caters for that economic, sociological and technological shift.

In the last 24 months, nearly half a million new companies have registered at Companies House and within the last twelve months, more than 100,000 people have opted for self-employment. amazingly, there are more than 1,091,730, 861 Internet users worldwide (as on the last day of 2006) demonstrating 202.4% in the last six years. Not a statistic to be messed with...

If you can't beat 'em, join 'em. If you're self-employed or work freelance, show off your skills at www.freelancersintheuk.co.uk. It doesn't matter which sector you work in - maybe you're a freelancer in the editorial, media, gastronomic or health and beauty fields, perhaps your skills and services span the technical, management, communication or accountancy sectors; if you're a contractor or simply an entrepreneur seeking a window shop in cyberspace to advertise your skills, services and specialisms, register at www.freelancersintheuk.co.uk to promote yourself.

These are exciting times for freelancers - more and more people are opting for self-employment, combining business with pleasure with business and mixing up the rules! We think George Bernard Shaw got it right:

People are always blaming their circumstances for what they are. I don't believe in circumstances. The people who get on in this world are the people who get up and look for the circumstances they want, and if they can't find them, make them.”
